Imitating Christ. Paul commends the Thessalonians for their faithful works and loving deeds, done in the hope of Christ. Having turned away from idols to the living God, they were imitating Paul’s life, who himself was imitating Christ.
Imitation is the way of discipleship. As we imitate Christ, we share in His joy as well as His suffering. To count the cost of discipleship and to pick up our ‘cross’ and follow Jesus means a public life of faith, hope and love that will grant us eternal life, but cost us suffering and persecution. This is just the reality of following Christ but we have be called to no less. May God’s Spirit to grant us the power to follow the master.
