Pentecost Sunday – The birth of the church with the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples. Three motif are seen: wind, fire, word. The same three that we see in the first few verses of the Bible itself, when God created the world. Now comes a ‘new creation’ the church

of Jesus Christ. We see that the first thing the disciples did as a new born church was to worship God in praise and thanksgiving, to preach the word of reconciliation and to begin even then, by the gift of tongues, to cross the barriers that divide people with the unifying power of the Holy Spirit. Act 2: 1-12
