Remember Your First Love. Revelation 2, letter to the church of Ephesus warns: you can hate all the things you ought to hate – such as evil, false doctrine, hypocrites – and you can still fail to love the things you ought to love. Correct hate is a popular form of religiosity. But Jesus calls them to remember and return to their first love. This has been misunderstood as a call to whip up subjective fervour, when in reality, it is a call to contemplate the Love of God, who loved us first, and who is our primary love.
